I am Linda Weldon-Church. My beloved Husband, David, aged 59, collapsed and died very suddenly on the evening of the 24th August 2012 from an abdominal hemorrhage while we were out feeding the feral cats as we had done every evening for 11 years.

Many knew David in his work capacity, but not all knew of his passion for animals. Over the years David rescued hundreds of cats and dogs he came across, often living in terrible conditions, injured and abandoned and gave them a second chance at a better life. After our marriage in 1999 I too got involved with the rescue of these animals, and stayed at home and dedicated my life to looking after them. We turned our home into an animal sanctuary and those we could not bring home we took food to every single day, 365 days a year for the past eleven years. Almost all his income went into feeding, sterilizing and providing for these animals, as well as hundreds of wild birds he loved to feed daily.

I am now desperately trying to keep this up, not only feeding and looking after all the animals in our sanctuary, over 113 cats and 6 dogs, but doing the daily feeding rounds to 6 different locations, feeding over 50 feral cats and hundreds of wild birds, on no steady income, and with no good life insurance policies to help me. To make matters much worse, once David’s construction company was closed down and all his loyal staff paid out, the Lawyer informed me the company was now insolvent and there was no money left so I would have to ‘get rid of all the animals’! This I cannot do!!

PURR-FECT RESCUED CATS:

Picture
Our NPO (Non Profit Organisation) was named after Purr-fect, our very first bottle fed kitten, rescued in 1999, see the pictures above! He was the first of many, was very special and we loved him dearly. He passed away peacefully on the 27th March, 2012 after a full and happy life with us.

THE SANCTUARY:

This is in Athlone park near Durban, KZN, SA. It is secure and surrounded by high fencing, so  no cats are locked up in cages and all have the run of the large garden, house, many enclosures, roof and trees so live a wonderful, free, safe life. My  aim and prayer is that I can continue to feed them so that they are able to live out their lives here.

appeal:

I am therefore appealing for help to continue feeding all these beloved rescued animals so that they can live out their lives at the sanctuary safely and happily. It does not matter how small the donation, every little bit would help as I am really desperate. I am praying enough people will place debit orders for as little or as much as possible on a monthly basis, an amount that they will not miss but that will make a huge difference to the lives of these animals.

YOUR DONATION WILL SAVE A LIFE!

If you can help on a monthly basis - please think of doing so - even R20 or R50 a month (100 people x R50 = R5000 a month - TOTALLY POSSIBLE!! & would REALLY really help!

My Non Profit Organisation is:

ESSENWOOD MARKET:

I am very blessed to have acquired a charity table at Essenwood market every Saturday, run by a volunteer, Barbara Maude-Stone whose help is invaluable! We are only allowed to sell cat and animal related items which is a challenge, but have been donated some fabulous prizes for a raffle which has been a great success!

DONATIONS:

All and any donations of cat, dog and bird food would be greatly appreciated, as well as any cat, dog and animal related items that could be sold at the market. You can contact me for drop off or collection arrangements, or drop them off at our stand at Essenwood Market, Durban North everySaturday. We also require newspapers, black bags and empty coffee/powdered milk type tins, medium sized with plastic lids which can be turned into COLLECTION TINS and I am looking for venues where these tins could be placed if anyone can help here.

FACE BOOK:

Please note we are now on face book,  so you can look us up and we can keep you updated, thanks to Melissa Du Preez who set it up and runs it for me!

PLEASE FORWARD THIS APPEAL TO ANYONE YOU KNOW WHO MAY BE ABLE TO HELP!

Many thanks on the behalf of David, myself and all our beloved animals,

Best wishes,

Linda
