Overview of Husky Rescue KZN
With the support of my family, I established Husky rescue KZN in 2009, in association with Husky Rescue SA (an NPO based in Gauteng). In March 2010 we were successful in registering our own NPO under the name of The Lebanon ARROHHH (Association for the Rescue and Rehabilitation of Humans, Huskies and Horses).

The Lebanon ARROHHH has a long-term vision, starting with the procuring of a working farm where rescued Huskies and Horses are rehabilitated.  We will then
use these animals in Animal Assisted Therapy Programmes to work with people who
have suffered emotional traumas. This human/animal partnership will aid each other in a mutual process of healing, and the result will be the empowering of both people an animals. There is abundant evidence to prove the value of using animals to work
with people who are in emotional need.

Our short-term goal is the continued management of Husky Rescue in KZN, as well as the KZN Sleddog Club which was established as an extension of Husky Rescue.   The purpose of our club is to get as many of our dogs onto the trail, doing what they love
best, as well as interacting with people.   The benefit is education, awareness and socialising with both huskies and people.

How can you help?

Since our inception in August 2009, we have had more than 150 dogs come into our care.   We rehabilitate the rescued Huskies, then focus on re-homing these amazing dogs into appropriate homes.  Why the Siberian Husky you may ask?   Like the Border Collie, this is an highly intelligent working breed that needs constant stimulation in order to prevent it from becoming a ‘bad’ dog.

Many people buy the puppies because they are so strikingly beautiful.   Then, a year
to 18 months later, the dog lands up on the street or in a shelter because “I can’t manage this dog anymore”.

Once they are in our care, the dogs are sterilised, micro-chipped, vaccinated, dewormed and treated for any medical conditions, or behavioural problems they may have.   I have several veterinary clinics that I work with in order  to give the dogs the best possible care that they need.

We foster the dogs that are in our care in our rescue centre in Cato Ridge until we are able to find them good homes.    Some huskies are lucky, and only have a short stay with us, while others have to stay for much longer.   On average we have 30 dogs in our care at any given time.

Along with this responsibility comes the financial burden of taking care of these animals.  Every month we need at least R6000.00 for their food and R1000,00 for the
vital supplements.   Tick, flea and parasite control costs a further R150 per dog per month, and these figures do not include the veterinary expenses, which at times run into thousands of Rand.

We have embarked on a campaign and are looking for on-going financial support from both the general public and business sectors.

SOS CAMPAIGN  -  Save our Sibes!

“If you can’t adopt, foster; if you can’t foster – sponsor;  if you can’t sponsor – volunteer;  if you can’t volunteer – donate; if you can’t donate – educate, network and share.

EVERYONE can do something, big or small, to help save a life!”

For a mere R50; R100; R250; R500 or R1000 monthly donation you can assist our NPO in helping to rescue and rehabilitate these abandoned and/or abused Siberian Huskies, as well as other northern breeds, while we look for new appropriate homes for them.

We will also welcome once-off donations, as well as dog care products, dog food, rice, pets meat and vegetables.

Please consider supporting us as part of your Social Responsibility Programmes, and you will benefit in turn.  We are registered with SARS as a Public Benefits Organisation, thus allowing us to issue 18A Certificates (on request) to all persons/businesses who make donations to us. This certificate allows for a tax rebate on donations made.

have available for adoption, and visit our Inspiring Stories Page and read some

Christmas Drive:

Dog food is always top of the list (Jock, Montego or Pedigree for pellets and
Husky brand for tin foods), we have enough blankets and bowls at this stage. The
other great need would be financial donations to help pay for vet fees. A nice
to have would be doggie toys.
